The Federal Tax Authority (FTA) has established a critical, fast-approaching deadline for UAE businesses. If your company's first corporate tax period concluded on December 31, 2025, you have exactly until July 31, 2026, to file your initial corporate tax return and secure a full waiver of the AED 10,000 late-registration penalty.
Missing this date means the penalty stands entirely, even though your standard statutory filing deadline is not until September 30, 2026.
How the Waiver Mechanism Works
Under a UAE Cabinet Decision implemented by the FTA, businesses that registered late for corporate tax—or have not yet registered at all—can have the AED 10,000 administrative penalty for late registration completely waived.
"The condition is straightforward: the taxable person must submit their first corporate tax return within seven months of the end of their first tax period, rather than the standard nine months permitted under Article 53 of Federal Decree-Law No. 47 of 2022."
For the vast majority of businesses operating on a standard calendar financial year (ending December 31, 2025), this accelerated seven-month window expires on July 31, 2026.
What if You Have Already Paid the Penalty?
The FTA's initiative is highly inclusive and covers nearly every permutation of a company's tax status:
- If you already paid the AED 10,000: Filing within this seven-month window triggers an automatic credit of the full amount to your EmaraTax account, which can be used against other liabilities or reclaimed.
- If you were charged but have not paid: Filing early automatically cancels the penalty.
- If you haven't registered at all: You can register right now, file the return within the window, and the penalty will still be waived.
The FTA reported in May 2026 that over 68,600 taxable persons had already benefited from this relief, with thousands more still eligible.
Act Now, Don't Wait for September
While the September 30, 2026 deadline for filing and paying your corporate tax due remains in effect, waiting until September means you surrender AED 10,000 that was entirely yours to recover. Compiling a first corporate tax return requires compliant financial statements and taxable income adjustments, meaning it cannot be rushed over a single weekend.
